1. You need to be able to separate work from home life otherwise you will blend the two with not so good results. So keep work and home stuff separate and apart to maintain that difference and so when at ‘work’ be at work. One way is to keep your personal things out of your work space and also when working do not get distracted by home stuff.

2. Ideally, as per the first point, you want to separate the work from home and this is ideally done by choosing a space that is exclusively for work, i.e a spare bedroom, a section of the house not used for something else, the garage, a cabin in the garden. It is important not to double up on an area.

3. Building on the previous point, if you can have a separate and exclusive access to your ‘office’ space then even better. This will help you make the distinction between being at home or at work, especially if you intend to have clients or suppliers over, then this is almost crucial.

3. Get organized with you computer and network - go wireless and get rid of the thousands of cables - keep it neat and organized.

4. Get organized with technology  - there are many software programs out there that will help cut costs, be more organized and ultimately more efficient. For example, you can use Skype to make phone calls, get others to leave messages and be able to access this wherever you are.You can have a fax service that emails you instead of a physical fax.Of course you should be able to do all your banking and most of your purchasing online as well.
